The role of VOSS- is to provide an all encompassing management capability for advanced unified communications platforms.

The diagram below shows how VOSS- integrates within an IP Telphony and UC architecture (Blue sections relate to USM).

At a high level, the role of VOSS- can be summarised as follows:

  • Support the provisioning and management of medium to large-scale, multi-tenant and multi-site IP managed-hosted telephony deployments (from 2,000 to 1million-plus business phones).
  • supporting the delivery of advanced UC applications, without the need for major systems integration
  • Manage the allocation and configuration of  large scale IP telephony resources, including IP PBX clusters, transit soft switches, firewalls, media gateways, IP address management systems, customer dial-plans, telephone numbers, phones, lines and value-added services.
  • Enable the 'managed service' operator to devolve the administration of telephony services to enterprise customers and their end-users (catering both for multi-tenant partitioning requirements and for multi-cluster situations).
  • Allow end-users to self-subscribe to chargeable voice features, events and services, as well as to administer the set-up of their phone profile.
  • Allow the operator to manage a large-scale, shared IP telephony platform as a single entity, simplifying integration with other BSS and OSS systems and reducing operational complexity and costs.
  • Automate and simplify the activation of new enterprise customers, sites, phones, end-users and their phone services – providing real-time provisioning in place of more manual, and often error-prone batch provisioning.  The goal is to allow provisioning by a non-technical administrator.
  • Enable 'mass configuration' in support of migration programmes and to allow much faster roll-out of IP devices and services.
  • Business Monitoring and SLA maintenance.
Managing unifiec communications services is not purely about provisioning dial tone and calling features. Value-added UC services are able to be introduced and managed within this overall solution without major integration costs due to the pre-integrated UC architecture developed by Vision. By providing easy access to customers and end users (in some cases via self-subscription), new revenue opportunities can be generated with little or no incremental administration overhead or cost.
